Tickets sold by the hundreds of thousands for the Mega Millions jackpot as

jackpot -- the largest in that lottery's history.
The 11-state jackpot led to higher ticket sales, despite the bleak odds of winning
Friday -- one in 135,145,920, according to the Mega Millions Web site.
But someone who bought a ticket in Stephens City, Virginia managed to beat the odds
to become the sole winner of the jackpot, according to the game's Web site.
The jackpot was the only topic of conversation at the convenience store where the
ticket was sold, the Red Apple Shell station.
"Oh my gosh, you don't know how excited we are, and we didn't even win the ticket," said Dangie Robinson, a clerk at the station
She said the store was abuzz Saturday morning with news that the winning ticket was sold there and excited at the prospect of receiving money from lottery officials. Virginia Lottery Director Penelope Kyle said store owner Harry Simpson would receive $25,000.

Two winning SuperLotto Plus tickets matching all six numbers - 6, 9, 17, 29, 32 and Mega Number 12, shared October's mega jackpot of $99 million.
The winning tickets, sold in Santa Clara and Los Angeles each worth $49.5 million were won by two couples.
Aspiring actress Robynn Newton, 29, came forward with her winning ticket to claim her $49.5 million along with her fiancé
Wes Dorffi. "I chose the numbers that were significant to our lives", said Newton, "but I just chose the 12 randomly." Newton and Dorffi purchased their tickets at Fountain Shell in Los Angeles and spent only $1 dollar on lottery tickets. Newton opted for the lump sum which is $26.3 million. They plan to open a production company with their winnings and he will leave his current post with the Navy.
Sharing the mega jackpot was Santa Clara's 7-Eleven franchisee Narinder Badwal and wife Lilla Singh, who came forward to claim their winning ticket on the Friday following the draw. The couple who will receive the payments over 26 years will receive a first payment of $1.2 million and $2.5 million on the final 26th year. They have no immediate plans for their winnings. Badwal and Singh will also receive $247,500 for selling the winning ticket.
This Lottery jackpot is the sixth largest in California Lottery history. The sales from this jackpot generated over $62 million to California's public education.

Army sergeant wins $150 million Mega Millions jackpot
Stephen Moore walked into a Flash Foods store in Fitzgerald and plunked down a dollar for a lottery
ticket because he was tired of waiting outside in the cold while his brother and a friend shopped for snacks.
The Army staff sergeant, stationed in South Korea, was a week into a 30-day leave. And even though he'd told
friends before leaving for Fitzgerald that he'd win the lottery while he was home, he had never played the game seriously.
On Wednesday, Moore became the largest jackpot winner in state history when his ticket matched all six
numbers for Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing for a $150 million prize.
The 30-year-old soldier picked the cash option -- worth $88.9 million before taxes.
"I told my mom to go ahead and quit work," he said Wednesday. He also plans to build a home for his wife and two daughters.
And he intends to finally come through with the dream wedding his wife, Danielle, also an Army staff sergeant,
had wanted. Nine years ago, they were married by a justice of the peace.
Congratulations to the lucky winner and his family.

Two life-long Las Cruces residents have won the most recent Powerball jackpot.
Isabell (cq) and Rafael Delgado presented the winning ticket late Friday
from Wednesday night's $32 million Powerball drawing. The pair chose the
lump-sum cash option payment of nearly $17.9 million before taxes.
Accompanied by a dozen extended family members, Mrs. Delgado said that
she was asleep during Wednesday night's drawing, and didn't check her
winning numbers until a co-worker told her Thursday that the only
winning ticket was sold in New Mexico. She found the winning numbers
on the Internet.
"Those look like the numbers I had," she told reporters at New Mexico's
Lottery headquarters in Albuquerque. "I got nervous and called my husband."
When she told him that she thought she had won Powerball, his response was
simple: "Get real, Isabell!"
Birthdates and other numbers with family significance made up the
lucky numbers, which Mrs. Delgado said she has played for several years.
The winning numbers drawn at Powerball headquarters in
Iowa were 19, 08, 09, 25 and 22, and the red Powerball was 11. Mrs. Delgado
described herself as just an occasional Lottery player, buying $5 worth
of Powerball tickets "now and then". The couple has been married for 25
years. Mrs. Delgado works as a clerk typist for the City of Las Cruces'
Benavidez Community Center and plans to keep her job. Mr. Delgado had
been employed by Raley's Supermarket, until the California chain closed
its Las Cruces stores last summer. He has since gone back to college at
New Mexico State University and now plans to finish his degree in mechanical
engineering technology. A more immediate plan looms, however.
"We're going to Disneyland," Mrs. Delgado said. "I've promised my kids for years that when we had the money, or if I ever won the Lottery, I could afford to take them to Disneyland." Her three children range in age from
16 to 29, and she also has grandchildren. Additionally, she plans to help
her children buy homes. Her husbands plans to invest as much of the prize
as possible so that their children and grandchildren can attend college and
to assure the family's financial security.
Present and former co-workers used nearly identical descriptions of the
Delgados in comments to both reporters and Lottery representatives:
"It couldn't have happened to a nicer family."

A year ago over suds and shuffleboard, six friends in the East Valley decided
to have a little fun and indulge a collective dream of striking it rich.
Their flights of fantasies have now landed them a $95.3 million fortune
in the latest Powerball jackpot, the second-largest total in Arizona.
The latest winners have decided to take a lump sum payment, with each
pocketing about $5.2 million. "We'd sit around and fantasize, but we never dreamed we'd win," said Sandy Riggs, 53, a Mesa mother and postal
carrier. "It's just starting to sink in. I've got to get my footings before I do anything drastic."
Winners Richard, 72, and Barbara, 66, Rogge have already made up their minds. The Mesa couple will spread the wealth among their 10 children and their 20-plus grandchildren. While some plan to quit their jobs, Barbara would like to keep her part-time job in K-Mart's garden department. The friends say they may take a cruise together with their winnings. Beyond that, they have simple plans: pay bills, invest, travel and buy new cars and other goodies.
Chuck Taylor, 54, a Mesa security guard, father and grandfather, bought the group's winning ticket. Though he's quitting his job at an RV dealership, he predicts that everyone's lives will stay much the same. "It will make things a lot easier," he said. "But most of us are pretty happy campers now." The group's two other winners are Dennis Hodgins, 54, a manufactured-homes salesman and father, who has already quit his job, and Janet Kelly, who was unavailable for comment.
Some members of the group have known each other for more than a decade, while others joined a few years ago. They all play shuffleboard at a Mesa bar called Simpletons, where they first discussed going in on lottery tickets. They decided that one person would kick in $20 a week for 20 tickets, and then share the numbers with the group.
Last week, it was Taylor's turn. He bought his bunch from the 7-Eleven at 2010 E. Main St. in Mesa on his way home from work Saturday. He found the winning numbers Sunday in a local newspaper and remembers reading them off one by one. "When I hit the fifth one, I reached for my cell phone," he said. He contacted everyone but Riggs, who was camping in southern Arizona and had her cell phone turned off. When she finally switched it back on, she was flooded with messages from her friends. The group had never won more than about $50. "I thought they were just pulling my leg," she said. Barbara Rogge wasn't expecting the news, either. When the phone rang at 7 a.m. Sunday, she worried that there was something wrong with one of her children. "It made me nervous," she said. And when she heard the good news? "It made me more nervous."
By Sunday night, the group managed to get everyone together. Still a little stunned, they went over the numbers and then did the obvious next best thing - played some shuffleboard.
